Fall River Guided Fly Fishing Trip

The Fall River is a premier spring creek fishery nestled in the beautiful Deschutes National Forest. The naturally fishless stream is blocked from fish passage by a waterfall but it now has small populations of wild rainbows and brook trout, and it is regularly stocked with trophy-sized rainbow trout each month of the season.

The River

The water is crystal clear and the fish become regulated to their environment fairly quickly which makes for fun and challenging fishing. The Fall River requires light tippets and small flies to accurately imitate the small midges, mayflies, and caddis that occupy the spring creek and become the natural food source of the stocked fish. They are also apt to take attractor-style patterns that have flash and color whether it be streamers, nymphs, or dries.

The Trip

Tailor the guided trip to your personal goals for fly fishing by requesting casting advice, fly selection explanation, or a lesson on reading water. The Fall River is great for beginners because you can easily sightfish for groups of fish which makes for exciting takes. For the same reason, it can be a great experience for a more experienced angler who wants to throw technical dry fly casts in log jams and complex currents.

When guided on the Fall you can expect to meet the guide at the Fall River Hatchery or some other access point on the river for the day. The river is short and has plenty of access so you can expect to possibly move spots throughout the day.

All the gear is provided, whether it be waders, boots, rods, and terminal tackle. If you want to bring your gear it is very much encouraged. When on a full-day trip lunches will be provided and can be eaten at a picnic table in the shade of trees beside the river. But even more popular is a half-day trip to the Fall as it is a short 30-minute drive from Bend. Start the day on the river with us, then head to a brewery or hike for the afternoon. All gear can also be provided on a half-day trip.
